Where
do you get your information from?
The
research is conducted by qualified historians at the Historical
Research Center. They utilize an
impressive library of books, rare manuscripts and documents. A
partial bibliography is published on the back of most parchments.
How
long does it take?
The
printed items are normally dispatched within 48 hours of receipt of your
order. The embroidered items are made to special order only. The
usual delivery time is approximately 8 weeks. During the busy
Christmas season you must allow approximately 10 weeks for
delivery.
Where
are the embroideries made?
They
are sewn overseas and are shipped to our suppliers in the USA. We then matt, frame and deliver it to you.
What
is heraldry and what is a Coat of Arms?
Heraldry
dates back to the 12th century, coinciding with the development of
armour, around the time of the religious wars - the Crusades. As the
knight would be clad from head to toe in armour, a way of
recognizing him became necessary. Thus, Heraldry began with the
decoration of the knight's coat and shield with a distinctive
insignia.
Are
all Coats of Arms the same?
No.
Each name bears a different design on the blazon and the crest.
The insignia adopted by the family soon became jealously guarded
and the object of great pride.
Does
the Name History have a Coat of Arms too?
The
Family Name History parchments have a literal translation
of the blazon of arms/coat of arms. The description of
the blazon is written in Norman French - the recognised
language of heraldry. The Coat of Arms itself is a separate
print.
Does
every name have a Coat of Arms?
No,
not every name. We have most of them on our database. If yours is
not there, it means one of two things:
Your Coat of Arms has not been researched
and placed in our database.
Your Coat of Arms has been researched but
not found.
if we have your name on file.)
The
spelling of my name has changed.
As our
name histories go back a few hundred years it is important to use
the authentic spelling as we are more likely to have the original
spelling and history.
Can
you fax/email a copy of the histories?
No.
Both our Name Histories and Coats of Arms are covered
by copyright and are a saleable item.
